Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) Chicagoland Laborers’ District Council Training and Apprentice Fund Training Center
Chicago (North Austin)
53,000 sf expansion
The Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) established its Training and Apprentice Fund in 1986 to provide essential training and education for laborers in the construction trades. A new, state-of-the-art 53,000-square-foot addition to its existing Chicago facility makes it the largest LIUNA training center in North America, serving approximately 3,500 members annually.
The addition features classrooms, high-bay training spaces, an auditorium, and a cafeteria, all arranged to create a flexible, functional, and cost-effective learning environment.
Designed in accordance with the City of Chicago’s Sustainable Development Policy, the facility incorporates abundant natural light, a green roof, and solar-control strategies that reduce summer heat gain. LIUNA also partnered with After School Matters to create a one-of-a-kind permanent memorial honoring fallen laborers, which is prominently displayed on the building.
