Academy for Global Citizenship

Chicago, Illinois (LeClaire Courts)

The Academy for Global Citizenship (AGC) is a Chicago Public Charter School and nonprofit incubator for innovation in education located on Chicago’s Southwest side. AGC has developed a “school of the future” to reimagine the role of the learning environment in educating students for the needs of the 21st century. AGC has redesigned school architecture for the social and environmental needs of the 21st century, while considering how educational institutions can serve as learning and innovation hubs for the broader community. Eckenhoff Saunders teamed with AGC through Schematic Design to help create a new Net Positive Energy elementary school campus to generate 105% of its energy needs. Employing a significant array of photovoltaic panels and a geothermal field among multiple other strategies, AGC pursued certification by the International Living Future Institute.
