Eckenhoff Saunders served as lead architect, planner, and interior designer for SEIU Local 1’s new headquarters at the Aon Center in downtown Chicago. The 21,000 RSF renovation creates a modern, flexible workplace that reflects the union’s mission and the strength of its diverse membership.

The design features an open, light-filled layout that encourages collaboration while maintaining private offices and meeting rooms for focused work. Branded environmental graphics and custom signage reinforce SEIU’s identity throughout the space, from the dynamic SEIU member-designed entry mural to the integrated color palette of purple, gold, and gray. Amenities such as a staff café, multipurpose training and meeting rooms, and flexible furniture systems support both day-to-day operations and large gatherings. The finished office embodies SEIU’s commitment to its members and to remaining an active, visible presence in the heart of downtown Chicago.
