RUSH University Medical Center Pharmacy

Chicago, Illinois

Eckenhoff Saunders teamed with RUSH University Medical Center (RUMC) for the renovation of a new pharmacy on their main Chicago medical campus. RUMC previously operated under a decentralized pharmacy model, with multiple pharmacy locations spread across the campus. This setup posed challenges in meeting stringent USP requirements consistently across various sites. The new pharmacy clean-room adopts a centralized pharmacy approach, improving efficiency and compliance.

The project features fully dedicated and redundant rooftop units (RTUs) and exhaust systems, offering enhanced control and functionality. New RTUs were installed on a custom-designed steel platform atop an existing low roof, directly above the new centralized pharmacy. The pharmacy suite includes two ISO Class 7 non-hazardous buffer rooms, one ISO Class 7 hazardous buffer room, adjacent wet and dry ante-rooms, a spacious controlled non-classified work and storage area, and a 120-locker gender-neutral locker room.
