Highland Park Hospital – Central Plant

When Highland Park Hospital merged with NorthShore University HealthSystem, Eckenhoff Saunders was retained to prepare and secure approvals for a multi-phased reorganization and rejuvenation of the 25-acre campus.
As part of this process, Eckenhoff Saunders designed a combined central plant and parking garage to house boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and emergency power generation for the existing hospital and future additions, as well as four parking levels for 450 cars. The brick skin with limestone accents and glass-enclosed communication stair blends the structure’s façade with the hospital’s. The garage and plant are connected via an underground tunnel to the hospital.
