Eckenhoff Saunders has completed the transformation of Loyola University Medical Center’s Pathology Laboratories into a state-of-the-art, 24-hour regional facility. The 7,000-sf renovation enhances workflow for cyto, surgical, and molecular pathology, and introduces advanced FISH testing and digital pathology services.

The design maximized the use of existing infrastructure to minimize costs and construction impact, particularly to the Emergency Department located directly below, while upgraded lighting and finishes unify the renovated and existing areas into a modern, efficient environment for anatomical pathology.

Project Highlights

  • Reorganized 7,000 sf to improve workflow and patient care
  • New FISH testing and digital pathology capabilities
  • Enhanced cyto, surgical, and molecular pathology spaces
  • Strategic use of existing infrastructure to reduce disruptions
  • Upgraded lighting and finishes for a cohesive, contemporary lab

“This renovation elevates diagnostic efficiency and supports 24/7 regional service, delivering a unified, future-ready laboratory for Loyola’s care teams and patients.”
