Chicago Public Schools Jordan Community Academy

New public school for 700 students in grades prekindergarten through eight
Chicago, Illinois

At three stories and 68,000 sf, Jordan Academy features innovative and efficient design solutions. The first floor houses preschool through primary classrooms, administrative offices, and a multipurpose room that functions as both a cafeteria and auditorium for school and community use. A full-service kitchen provides breakfast and lunch for students and staff.

Intermediate through upper-grade classrooms are on the second floor, as well as special-use classrooms and the gymnasium. Because a primary focus of Jordan’s science curriculum is horticulture, a greenhouse was installed on the third floor and classes access this space from the science classroom. The third floor is positioned over the south end of the building and, in addition to the greenhouse, houses a dramatic library with a barrel-vaulted ceiling.
